Construction of Zaans Medical Centre completed
16.09.2016 -
After two years of construction, building contractor BAM has officially handed over the new Zaans Medical Centre (ZMC) to Wouter van der Kam, Chairman of the Board of Directors. The Mecanoo-designed hospital has been successfully completed on schedule and within budget.
All parties involved in the complex project are proud of having met such an achievement: creating the first lean-designed and built hospital in Europe. With its patient friendly appearance, the five-storey ZMC is an asset to the city of Zaandam and the wider region.
The celebratory exchange of keys marks the start of a new phase. Wouter van der Kam: "We are pleased to have achieved this milestone. A very busy time will start now. In the coming months, we are going to fit-out the new hospital with (medical) equipment, simulate all relevant internal processes, and train our staff in order to be well-prepared for the actual deployment. We are almost there - soon the citizens of the Zaanstreek will have an innovative and truly ‘Zaans’ hospital. We expect the new hospital to be in use by the end of 2016.”
The Zaans Medical Centre, VitaalZorgvast and BAM have signed a DBMO contract (Design, Build, Maintain and Operate) for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the approximately hospital. With the delivery and hand-over, the operational phase thus begins. BAM will be responsible for the technical management and maintenance, cleaning services and for the energy consumption of the hospital for a period of 25 years.
