The Library of Birmingham was named Project of the Year during the National Constructing Excellence Awards ceremony on Friday 14th November in London. The library has also received a nomination for Mies van der Rohe Award 2015, the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.
For the Mies van der Rohe Award, projects are submitted by a group of independent experts, the member associations of the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE), the other European national architects’ associations and the Advisory Committee. Out of the nominations, the jury will select a shortlist, and ultimately name five finalists, one of which will win the much coveted prize.
Mecanoo has previously made it to the award’s shortlist in 1996 (for the Faculty of Economics and Management) and 2011 (for La Llotja Theatre and Conference Centre).
