An application to build 105 Mecanoo designed apartments and townhouses on Leaf Street on the edge of Hulme in Manchester has been submitted to the city council. The plan is part of a project for 170 new homes known as ‘Hulme Living’ by community development organisation One Manchester.
The Leaf Street development has a strong emphasis on green living, ensuring the homes are built to last and better for the environment. The apartment buildings will be set around communal, external space and the townhouses clustered around private gardens. As many living rooms as possible will benefit from a south facing aspect and face away from the busy main road.
Extensive landscaping creates a park like area using the existing trees and adding many more to the site. The plans also include planting more flowers and plants as well as connecting into the existing cycle path along the west of the site.
Any revenue earned from the new homes will be reinvested back into community development programmes – including future housebuilding – to help improve lives and the wellbeing of people living in local communities. The council decision is expected later this year.
