The Netherlands’ Central Government Real Estate Agency announced a shortlist of four proposals for the redevelopment of Soestdijk Palace. Eden Soestdijk, a proposal by Stichting Voorbereiding Eden Soestdijk, Mecanoo, Eden Project, and Royal HaskoningDHV, is one of selected proposals.
Eden Soestdijk is inspired by the successful Eden Project in Cornwall (UK), which is the largest botanical garden in the world as well as a not-for-profit organisation for sustainable development. The theme of Eden Soestdijk will be the connection between nature and mankind, focusing on sustainability and innovation.
The Palace will be turned into an exhibition and meeting centre. Two architecturally distinct greenhouses will be added to the surrounding park landscape. The four shortlisted teams will receive funding to further develop their proposal into a viable business plan.
