The Taekwang Country Club Café in Korea has been selected as a finalist for the ArchDaily Building of the Year Award in the category Hospitality. The readers of ArchDaily are now invited to vote for the project that they feel best exemplifies what it means to push architecture forward.
Mecanoo designed the two-floor café as a visual point of reference on the 36-hole golf course of Taekwang Country Club, just outside of Seoul. The expressive oversized black steel roof with a distinct pattern of interlocking circles produces a generous all-sided canopy. Nestled in a steep hill, the café is well-integrated into the mountainous Korean landscape.
Archdaily writes of the finalists: “[The] selection includes some Building of the Year stalwarts alongside a healthy selection of lesser-known and emerging practices - but most importantly, they all capture architecture's capacity to spark positive change in the environment.”
