Francine Houben lecture at Columbia GSAPP

05.04.2017 - Events

Francine Houben will give the Paul S. Byard Memorial Lecture at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) in New York City on April 17, 2017.

In the lecture, Francine Houben will present Mecanoo’s designs based on three fundamental elements: people, place, purpose. Each project is carefully considered in terms of its cultural setting, place and time, amounting to a unique design statement embedded within its context and orchestrated specifically for the people who use it.

After the lecture, there will be responses by Jorge Otero-Pailos, Director Historic Preservation Program at Columbia GSAPP, and Iris Weinshall, Chief Operating Officer, the New York Public Library. Mecanoo, together with Beyer Blinder Belle, is currently working on the Midtown renovations of the NYPL.

The Paul S. Byard Memorial Lecture celebrates the legacy of Paul S. Byard, Director of Historic Preservation at Columbia GSAPP from 2000-2008. The event is organised annually by Columbia GSAPP's Historic Preservation Program.
