Zaans Medical Centre is nominated for the Frame Awards in the category of Healthcare Centre of the Year. Mecanoo together with SILO spent two years creating a ‘healing environment’. Patients and visitors of the new Zaans Medical Center will experience an atmosphere designed to support their recovery.
The new Zaans Medical Centre is the first LEAN hospital in the Netherlands. It is an efficient and compact building in which professional healthcare and personal approach strengthen each other. Architecture, urbanism, landscape and interiors are brought together in a coherent design.
Clear routing, an abundance of daylight and positive distractions contribute to an environment that does not feel like a hospital, but as a place that promotes wellbeing. Hand-drawn illustrations on walls, glazed partitions, and lifts refer to the industrial heritage of the Zaan region. SILO´s approach resulted in a distinctive identity in the form of 3,500 m2 of illustrations that can be seen all over the new hospital. The building is BREEAM Very Good certified.
The Frame Awards jury members selected five nominees in each category, from a total of 892 submissions from all corners of the world. The Healthcare category focuses on interior spaces dedicated to healthcare and psychological and physical wellbeing, such as hospitals, clinics and dental practices.
The awards show will be held on the 21st February 2018 at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.
