The second phase of the Student Campus Yours Leiden started last November. A total of 423 new apartments for young professionals and 664 new student residences will be built over the next 2,5 years throughout three different blocks. By 2021, Mecanoo will have delivered 1878 dwellings with a gross area of approx. 120.000 m2.
Located in the oldest university town in the Netherlands, the large-scale (Y)ours Leiden development will become the most socially sustainable student campus in the country. The car-free campus is situated around a park-like public square, connecting the green canal zone of Leiden with the ROC square and Lammenschans railway station.
The buildings around the square vary in height from six to sixteen levels. The facades are characterized by their differences in height, width, colour, and materials, creating a modern interpretation of the Leiden canal district. The design gives the campus a highly urbanized yet intimate and contemporary look.
Phase 1 of the Student Campus Yours Leiden was officially opened on Monday 15th June 2015. A total of 583 student residences and 208 starter homes have been completed in the first phase; all of them are already occupied.
The design, development, construction, and operation of this new district is a collaboration between Mecanoo, Syntrus Achmea, Vorm, Ballast Nedam, and student housing association Duwo.
