Two brand new complexes with 218 and 249 student residences respectively form the second part of ‘Yours Leiden’ campus on the Leidse Schans. In 2015, more than 600 units of the first part were already in occupation. The campus was built thanks to the collaboration between the Leiden Student Housing Task Force, in which Leiden University and Leiden University College are also represented, Vorm Ontwikkeling B.V., Ballast Nedam, Syntrus Achmea and DUWO.
The new student residences on the campus are sustainable and ready for an energy transition. Just like the previously built student complexes, the two newest buildings are completely gas-free and have extra insulation. Heating and hot water are supplied by a combination of heat pump boiler, a ventilation system with heat recovery (WTW) and an array of solar panels on the roofs. The campus thus meets the sustainability requirements set by the municipality.
The campus designed by Mecanoo has since become a great place to live for hundreds of Leiden students, a mere six-minute bike ride from the historic center with Lammenschans train station just a few minutes' walk away. The last phase is expected to be delivered in mid-2020.
