THE NEW OPEN [Minds] workshop with Lydia Giokari
19.10.2022 - Events
THE NEW OPEN [Minds] workshop will bring researchers from the fields of Open Science, Computational Design, Urbanism, Data Management and Artificial Intelligence together with architects and experts from internationally renowned design firms that are innovating architecture through the use of data.
Lydia Giokari, architect at Mecanoo, and founder of Naive Architectural Narrations, specialises in speculative design for the future development of Dutch cities, with particular interest in how strategic urban decisions affect the architectural scale of projects. Lydia joins THE NEW OPEN [Minds] workshop, October 28th, 9:45h at the TU Delft, Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, Berlage Zaal.
Lydia on open data design: “There is a vast amount of data generated and stored daily that describe people’s behaviour in the built environment; data that shows the use of public space, infrastructures, buildings, even interiors. This data, if used as part of the inventory and concept phase of any design process, could inform and influence our designs and decision making while designing and re-thinking existing built structures. This process can lead to more future-proof designs that respond to the users’ changing needs, since they derive from users’ behaviour, patterns, or indicators, resulting in a more sustainable and resilient built environment.”
THE NEW OPEN is a flagship project of the Department of Architecture at TU Delft, initiated and led by Georg Vrachliotis and the Theory of Architecture and Digital Culture Group to explore the role of open data for design and social change. THE NEW OPEN [ Minds ] is a free event with limited spots available.
