07.01.2025 - Events
Join us at 'Not Just Library' in Taipei for a special lecture celebrating Mecanoo’s four decades of groundbreaking architecture. This event will feature Francine Houben, founding partner and creative director of Mecanoo, who will share insights into the firm’s journey and vision. Following the lecture, Francine Houben will answer audience questions and sign copies of the book, Mecanoo: People, Place, Purpose, Poetry.
Renowned for creating spaces that are both functional and poetic, Mecanoo’s projects reflect a deep commitment to humane, sensory-rich architecture. From the celebrated New York Public Library on Fifth Avenue to the futuristic Kaohsiung Theater Complex, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, D.C., and De Nederlandsche Bank in Amsterdam, Mecanoo’s designs continue to transform environments and captivate the imagination.
The book Mecanoo: People, Place, Purpose, Poetry offers a rich portrait of Mecanoo’s legacy. Featuring essays by architecture critic Herbert Wright, stunning photographs, and evocative illustrations, it highlights the innovative spirit that has defined Mecanoo for over 40 years.
Since founding Mecanoo in 1984, Francine Houben has guided the firm to international prominence, earning numerous accolades, including the Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund Prize for her life’s work in architecture. She has also played a pivotal role in shaping architectural discourse, serving as curator for the inaugural International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam in 2003 and teaching at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Yale, and Delft University of Technology.
