Project description

In a prominent location in the city centre of Breda, the iconic residential project Central Breda 076 is being developed. The site is located next to Stadspark Valkenberg and is bordered on either side by Valkenstraat and the historic Bouwerijstraat. Central Park 076 will feature a mix of housing types and supporting functions, ranging from high-end owner-occupied homes to mid-priced rentals and social (care)housing.

The complex is characterised by a stylish facade, a green crown, and a transparent base with amenities for the neighbourhood. Inside, there is a semi-public green courtyard with an underground parking garage. With this design, Central Park 076 adds public space that fits seamlessly with the structure of green courtyards in Breda.

Central Park 076 consists of a composition of four residential buildings firmly rooted in the existing fabric of the city. The most iconic part of the development stands out with its green, meandering crown featuring penthouses, rooftop gardens, and views of the park. It is connected to the building on Valkenstraat, which has a more understated appearance. Both buildings align with the average height of a city block in Breda.

The two smaller residential buildings on the other side of the inner courtyard match the height and scale of the fine-grained Boschstraat neighbourhood behind them. Together, this ensemble creates an inviting living and social environment for residents and visitors alike.

The project not only seeks harmony with its surroundings in terms of height and scale but also through its composition, materials, facade rhythm, and accents. Inspired by the many white buildings in the city, such as the nearby Huize Raffy on Boschstraat, Central Park 076 features facades with a light colour palette as a nod to Breda's classic architectural style.

The building facing the park boasts a beautifully profiled facade made of white-glazed terracotta tiles, emphasizing the green crown. The buildings on the opposite side of the courtyard feature masonry in light tones. Atop the crown lies a surprise: a large rooftop garden accessible to all residents, offering panoramic views of the park and city centre. Like the central courtyard, this rooftop garden serves as a place for connection and gathering.

The green rooftop gardens and courtyard not only enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors but also contribute to biodiversity in this part of the city. In collaboration with Breda’s urban ecologist, the planting beds are designed with native flowers, grasses, shrubs, and trees to attract animals and insects.

Birdhouses, nesting sites, bat boxes, insect hotels, and integrated greenery in the facades and roofs provide habitats for a wide range of species. This makes Central Park 076 a nature-inclusive housing project—a comfortable and enjoyable place to live while also providing ample space for flora and fauna.
