The Zilverreiger apartments are picturesquely located beside Sloterplas lake and within walking distance of Sloterpark. The building comprises a block of four and five floors containing 120 apartments in varying sizes. Its U-shaped layout facing the lake enables every apartment to enjoy a view of the water.
The various building heights correspond with those of neighbouring buildings. Spacious lobbies and passageways interrupt the massive volume and connect the courtyard with the immediate surrounds.
The courtyard accommodates a sunken car park, with 164 spaces, concealed by a timber deck. Accessible to residents, the deck resembles a plank bridge protruding into the green waterside landscape.
Mature trees in the courtyard provide privacy and create a park-like atmosphere. A large square opening in the centre of the deck brings daylight into the lower parking level and offers views of the courtyard. The building rests on a transparent plinth.
Four floors clad in rough, orange/brown bricks form the basis of the complex.
Brick fits the natural character of the site and the extensive use of glass makes the building’s upper floors appear lighter.
Clad in vertical timber battens, the courtyard-facing facades have a warm appearance that contrasts dynamically with the curtain of cool perforated steel that wraps the gallery.
